Hi, I’m Laura. I have been through a raft of usernames since I started using the internet and the latest combines the first (bean – an old school nickname) with a slightly geeky obsession I have with Batman. Please excuse it, I never find one I like.
I am in my twenties and work for the NHS doing communications stuff, which I enjoy. This blog was started after many others have failed because I have been researching online-communications for work and figured if I was going to tell everyone how awesome blogging was, I probably should do it myself. And my friends-locked livejournal about what I had for tea doesn’t really count. So it’s not likely to be the most cohesive, but I hope you’re okay with that. I am.
I’ve previously worked in shoe shops, hospital billing, a missionary training centre and a sexual health clinic. I also did a lot of volunteer work whilst at university, most notably equal opportunities stuff where I was in The Vagina Monologues. I still tinker about with charity stuff, helping friends who are involved with LUCIA and Cancer Research UK. I want to do more when I get the time, but hoping it doesn’t involve any more learning lines and monologues about vaginas.
When I’m not working I enjoy crafts, beads, cooking, a fine cup of tea, learning random information that most people would rightly keep away from and reading. In fact beads have slightly taken over my life; I’m amassing quite a collection and making what I hope is some pretty jewellery. I’m a member of two bookclubs; one at work and the other being Urban Coffee Company‘s monthly book club. I also like live music, but my attendance of it this year has dropped somewhat.
Last year my housemate/s and I are tried to do Project 365 where we took a photo everyday. We managed nearly half the year and are threatening to take it back up on the day we failed last year. Because we’re masochists.
I’ve also started a new blog looking at crafts in Birmingham, after a trip to a craft fair and a discussion with friends. I don’t claim to be any kind of expert, but I’m curious and enthusiastic. So if you know of anyone partaking of craft, the ‘arts and’ rather than witch, then please let me know.
